Indianapolis – Independent candidate for Indiana Secretary of State Greg Ballard today announced that his campaign has submitted at least 74,204 petition signatures—more than double the 36,943 verified signatures required to qualify for Indiana’s November ballot.
Ballard personally delivered the campaign’s final batch of Marion County petitions to election officials Tuesday at the City-County Building, concluding a statewide petition drive that drew support from tens of thousands of Hoosiers.
Because petition signatures can be invalidated for reasons such as illegible handwriting or voter registration issues, campaigns routinely collect well above the legal minimum before submitting them for verification. By submitting more than 74,000 signatures, the Ballard campaign has built a substantial cushion ahead of the verification process.
“This is more than a campaign, it is a movement,” Ballard said. “People said this couldn’t be done, but tens of thousands of Hoosiers proved them wrong. They want an experienced, independent leader in the Secretary of State’s office overseeing our elections.”
County election officials have until July 15 to verify petition signatures before forwarding certified totals to the Indiana Election Division. Ballard’s campaign will continue campaigning statewide while the verification process is completed.
