INDIANAPOLIS – Today, independent Secretary of State candidate Greg Ballard announced that his campaign has surpassed $1 million in funds raised.
“This is what a winning campaign looks like,” said Ballard. “We have raised more per month this year than any other candidate, regardless of party. That’s because people across Indiana want something different, and I’m proud to say that 99% of the dollars donated to my campaign – from individuals or committees – are from Hoosiers. No other viable candidate in this race can say that.”
The million dollar milestone was reached due to a $100,000 contribution from Indianapolis resident and former Lilly CEO John Lechleiter that was received yesterday. It is the largest single donation from an individual the campaign has received to date.
“My wife Sarah and I are pleased to support Mayor Ballard as a candidate for Indiana Secretary of State and likewise supportive of the formation of a new political party in our state,” Lechleiter said. “We are sick and tired of watching the two legacy parties race each other to their respective extremes. We are interested only in good government, and the Lincoln Party promises that.”
Ballard is running as an independent under the banner of the Lincoln Party, which does not yet exist but will be established in Indiana if Ballard receives at least 2% of the vote in November. Early polling released in March showed him well above that threshold.
